2012 4th of July Special Events


Cultural Night: May 4, 2012: Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Join us for an evening of "Art for All Ages" by local artists. This year's Cultural Night will be held in the Barn at Mt. Hope Farm and will have an exhibit, sale, auction, music and entertainment. Refreshment and door prizes.

Orange Crate Derby: June 10, 2012: 3:00 p.m.

The Bristol Fourth of July Committee's 63rd Annual Orange Crate Derby will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2012 (rain date: June 17, 2012) on Bayview Avenue.

The Derby check-in start at 1:30 pm and the races will begin at 3:00 pm. There will be one practice run allowed per entry. The race will be double elimination. Drivers should be between the ages of 7 and 14, be a resident of Bristol, RI, and all drivers are required to wear a helmet with chin strap, elbow pads, gloves. Optional safety gear includes goggles, mouth guard, safety belt.

Miss & Little Miss Fourth of July Pageant: May 19, 2012
7:00 p.m.

The Annual Miss/Little Miss Fourth of July Pageant will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 7pm in the Mt. Hope High School Auditorium. The applications for contestants will be available on March 1, 2012 at the Rogers Free Library in Bristol. For more information, please email Chairman Heidi Vermilyea.

Decorating Contest: June XX, 2012

Enter the Proud to be an American Patriotic Home/Business Decorating Contest. The contest is open to all residents and businesses. Entries are judged for patriotic theme and creativity. Only the front of the property will be judged from the sidewalk/street.

All entries must be postmarked by JuneXX.

Drum & Bugle Corps Competition
"Summer Music Preview": July 3, 2012: 7:00 p.m.

The Bristol Fourth of July Committee is proud to present the Fourth of July Drum and Bugle Corps Competition, the Summer Music Preview.

The Competition is one the highlights of the Bristol Fourth of July Celebration. It has grown to become one of the finest competitions, featuring top Drum and Bugle Corps from the United States and Canada.

Join us at Guiteras Elementary School as the volunteer firefighters battle for a day of fun and competition. Cheer on your favorites as the battle in the famous "Water Battle".

Go to the Concert Series downtown, visit our local restaurants, walk through beautiful downtown Bristol and do some shopping and then watch a spectacular fireworks display over the Bristol Harbor.

Patriotic Exercises: July 4, 2012
8:30-9:30 a.m.

The official kick-off on July 4th, Patriotic Exercises, for the 227th continouous time, will be held in front of Colt School, located on Hope Street, in downtown Bristol.
