Bristol Fourth of July Button Contest

In keeping with tradition, the Bristol Fourth of July Committee is holding it’s 21st Annual Commemorative Button Contest.

The winner of each category will receive $50.00. The one overall winner will be chosen from the three category winners and will receive an additional $75.00. All category winners will receive an invitation to be in the Fourth of July parade. The prize money has been donated by Rebecca Ann Hanos, proprietor of Just Dogs, in memory of Rebecca’s father, Henry Ramos.

Specifications:

  • Must be a Bristol resident.
  • Open to students in grades K-12.
  • There is a limit of one entry per person.
  • The deadline for entry is Friday, January 6, 2012.
  • Photographs may be black & white, sepia or color.
  • Each contestant may enter a maximum of 2 categories with up to 3 photographs submitted per category.
  • All photographs need not relate to the 4th of July.
  • Each entry must be an unmounted 8" x 10" print.
  • All entries become the property of the 4th of July Committee and may be reproduced by the committee for use during the 4th of July Celebration.

Categories:

  • Grades K – 5
  • Grades 6 – 8
  • Grades 9 – 12

Design Specifications:

  • Design must be submitted on an official entry form available at Rogers Free Library, 136 Express Printing and the Bristol Town Hall.
  • RED, WHITE and BLUE are the ONLY colors to be used in the button.
  • Design MUST have patriotic theme.
  • Design MUST include the following: Bristol; 227th; July 4, 2012.
  • Media accepted; crayons, watercolor, markers, colored pencils, etc. NO computer generated art.
  • Winning design may be enhanced for clarity when manufactured.
  • Design will become the property of the Bristol Fourth of July Committee.
  • Entries not complying with the design specifications will not be eligible for a prize.

NEWS/UPDATES

PARKING/STREET CLOSINGS

Parking is basically anywhere you can find it. Large lots are open to the public at the corner of Hope and Gooding. Avoid Mt. Hope High School, as the parade forms there are participants will be parking there. If you are parking on residential streets, please be sure to avoid blocking driveways. Police will ticket.


Various surrounding streets will be closed off beginning at 8:00 a.m., including Poppasquash Road. Chestnut Street, Naomi Street and Sherry Avenue will be close to traffic at 7:00 a.m.. A parking ban along the parade route goes into effect the night before the parade.
